Situated in the north-east of Rwanda, this 1200km² park is one of the most scenic to be found in Africa. It is also one of the oldest, having been established in 1934.

Lake Kivu is the largest body of water found in Rwanda. Kivu, derived from the Bantu word meaning lake, covers 2700km² and at points is close to 500m deep!

The Nyungwe Forest National Park is located in the south-west corner of Rwanda. Nyungwe is one of the oldest forests in Africa, even surviving the ice age.

A haven for mountain gorillas in the region, the Volcanoes National Park in Rwanda is also home to five volcanoes that form part of the nearby Virunga Mountains.
