Akagera National Park

Your private driver/guide will meet you early in the morning at 06:00 and provide a safari briefing before you depart for the Akagera National Park. The drive takes approximately 3 hrs checking at Kayonza gate and begins your full day game drive transversing through woodlands and savannah as you enjoy this vast and incredibly beautiful area of Rwanda.

Covering 1120 square kilometers, Akagera is one of the oldest parks in Africa having been gazetted in the year 1934 and still remains one of the most sort after parks in the sub-Saharan region. The park has a variety of animals, and birds being supported at this beautiful eco-system.

Whilst small in size compared to other parks in Africa it packs a mighty punch with  diverse scenery and lush green hills more akin to the landscape in beautiful Chad than any other park in Africa.

Herds of elephants roam the woodlands, leopard and spotted hyenas, as well as a variety of antelopes, giraffes, buffalo, zebras, hippos, crocodile, birds and many other species of the animal kingdom.

Lions and Black Rhino were re-introduced several years ago and are thriving under successful wildlife management with several cubs already produced from the re-located animals.

For the bird lovers, the Akagera ecosystem offers you a unique opportunity to see different species of birds lining along its marshlands and near the lakes, over 500 bird species have been recorded.

The Northern sector is known for the largest concentration of wildlife so a full day allows you to explore the entire park. Lunch is a picnic lunch at a designated site overlooking the landscape before you explore the Northern sector.

Transfer back to Kigali arriving at your hotel early evening.
